Princeton Review puts University of Georgia atop party school list

Princeton Review party school rankings were issued Monday. This year, University of Georgia is No. 1 on Princeton Review’s well known party school list. UGA officials deflected the party school news by indicating the school finished high in more respectable categories of the Princeton Review college ratings. For the 13th straight year, Mormon college Brigham Young University was the anti-party college, topping the list of “stone-cold sober schools.

UGA tops party school list for the very first time

Since the Princeton Review college ranks started in 1992, UGA has spent 10 of those years on the party school list. This year, the university claimed the top spot for the first time. The Associated Press reports that nearly 100 bars surround the UGA campus within the small town of Athens, Ga. Parties are part of student life from August to May each year. For numerous students the weekend begins on Thursdays and doesn’t end until class on Monday Morning. The list on not one any school wants to lead, a UGA spokesperson told AP. UGA appearing in other Princeton Review college ranks for instance the top 50 “Best Values” list and the “Green Honor Roll” of the most environmentally conscious campuses are being overshadowed by the party school list.

Princeton party ranks feature state schools

Freshman boys and girls bound for UGA may have gotten just a little more stoked about the fall term when the Princeton party school rankers were released, as outlined by AOL News. Many of the top 10 typically contains state schools and 2010 follows that pattern. Nearby in Athens, Ohio University was runner up to UGA. UGA beat out the top Princeton party schools of the past 3 years: Pennsylvania State University, West Virginia University and University of Florida.

Students and faculty earn UGA’s top party school status

Starting a number of campaigns to curb student drinking and reverse the school’s party reputation did little to keep UGA from topping the Princeton party rankings. The university has instituted harsh penalties for students violating football tailgating rules and getting caught drinking. UGA tailgaters trashed the historic North Campus following a September 2009 game, dumping about 70 tons of garbage. Intoxicated revelers were seen urinating and defecating on the campus grounds. And previous athletic director Damon Evans resigned last month, shortly after his drunken driving arrest. Prior to Evans’ arrest, he urged students not to drink and drive in public service announcements produced by the university.
