There was so much volatile bomb substance in a rental home in Escondido, California, even the bomb squad wasn’t safe. The problem stems from the home’s former resident. The guy had used the home as a makeshift lab where he produced homemade bombs. The home is so unstable officials stated the only way to safeguard the community was to burn off the Escondido bomb home down. The payday cash loans someone would need to take out to completely cleanse that home would cost more than just rebuilding a fresh one.
Escondido bomb home steeped in HMTD
There was a burning of the Escondido bomb residence Thurs. At 11 a.m. PST this happened. The discovery of the bomb factory only taken place because of a gardener. He stepped on gravel in the back yard and got badly burned. Police searching the home were shocked to discover a large stockpile of hexamethylene triperoxide diamine – HMTD. Officials called it the largest stockpile of HMTD ever found within the U.S. Any slight amount of heat, friction or impact will trigger the detonation of HMTD. Less than a gram of HMTD had spilled on the ground the gardener had stepped on. There were also 13 grenade hulls with HMTD packed in them found by police. This was with 9 detonators.
The Escondido bomb residence had products inside
There was eight to nine pounds of Hexamethylene triperoxide diamine within the Escondido bomb home. It was all removed. For making and possessing high-explosives, 54 year old George Djura Jakubec faces eight federal counts. Due to stealing $54,000 in three armed bank robberies in 2009, Jakubec is also being charged. Officials fear that more HMTD remains and that the home may be booby-trapped. The site is very unpredictable. In fact, an explosion occurred in the yard because of where a guy on the bomb squad stepped. San Diego County Sherriff asked FBI bomb experts if he could get some advice. This led to the decision the Escondido bomb home needed to be burned.
When the residence is going to be burnt down
A metal fence that is 16 feet high and is reinforced with 2 layers of fire-resistant drywall was built by authorities for the Escondido bomb house fire. There was a blast well with flame retardant gel also. This is in preparation. The home next door was boarded up and coated with the gel. They cleared vegetation too. This was all around the house. Then the Sheriff's bomb squad prepared some more. The roof had holes cut in it. A 48-hour notice of the burn was given to everyone within the community. Many were warned that they needed to close doors and windows. Then, the Interstate 15 north of Escondido was closed. The fire burned quickly at a temperature of about 1,800 degrees.
