Oregon guy modifies title to Captain Awesome

Mere mortal Douglas Allen Smith Jr., has become Captain Awesome. Captain Awesome is a twenty-seven year old Oregonian, which decided he needed a change of pace. So, he chose a title with panache, and went to court to turn into someone new. With a little lawful wrangling, he left his old identification behind and grew to become Captain Awesome. Captain Awesome must have taken out a loan to pay for the lawful name change.

Title modification from Douglas Allen Smith to Captain Awesome

Unemployed cabinet maker Douglas Allen Smith Jr., 27, of Eugene, Ore., made the decision he needed for making a modification. In honor of his favorite TV show, "Chuck," reports the Eugene Register Guard, he transformed his name to Captain Awesome. The character, Devon Woodcomb, played by Ryan McPartlin, was given the nickname because “a bad nickname builds character,” which appealed to Smith, and he set about changing his title to Captain Awesome. However, he had to face an incredibly skeptical judge who wasn’t initially receptive.

In court, Captain Awesome was able to win

Title change cases at the University of Oregon law library were what Smith used in representing himself. It was made the decision by the judge that he would be able to change his signature so it was left and right arrows pointing toward a smiley face. He also was granted the title change. His new signature was printed on the back of his driver's license as it was accepted by the OR Department of Motor Cars. The bank he had said the glyph was too easy to forge so he couldn't have it.

All of the title changes

Despite the ease with which some people can modification their lawful names, some odd titles go just a bit too far. There was a custody dispute between parents in New Zealand of a 9 year old girl years back and the judge decided that as the daughter was named Talula Does The Hula From Hawaii she would become a ward of the court. The judge was not amused and ordered a modification of title. Violence and Number 9 Bus stop were both allowed in New Zealand for name, reports CBC News. Of course, Yeah Detroit, Keenan Got Lucy and Sex Fruit were all forbidden.
