News that the United Nations is poised to appoint an extraterrestrial ambassador spread like wildfire on the internet Sunday. The United Nations Office for Outer space affairs, and also a Malaysian astrophysicist, Mazlan Othman, was expected to be the one to take the job. Othman said there is only one way this would ever happen. There would have to be alien visitors first. Extraterrestrial contact is not as much of a far-reached idea as it was in the past. There have been numerous discoveries of planets outside of the solar system. There are a lot of individuals worried about alien existence including Stephen Hawking who has given a warning to Earth. The British newspaper was the first to receive the news from Othman that there would be no alien ambassador to outer space.
Humanity might respond through the United Nations to extraterrestrial life?
The story that Mazlan Othman would be appointed the U.N. alien ambassador “broke” within the Sunday Times and spread like a super bug around the world. Othman was quoted by the Sunday Times talking about the search for transmission from aliens. She explained that earth needs to be ready to respond at any minute. Othman also gave the opinion that the United Nations should be responsible for this. Othman was said by the Australian to be in Britain next week for a scientific conference sponsored by the Royal Society. It said she would be speaking on contacting the aliens at that time.
The extraterrestrial existence search
An extra-solar planet is also called an exoplanet. In 1992, this was first discovered to actually exist. The Kepler Mission, a NASA outer space observatory launched in 2009, has identified hundreds of possible exoplanets. Stephen Hawking warned Earth although there is probably not any intelligent alien life. Hawking does not think that humanity should be working so hard to discover extraterrestrial existence, according to the Sunday Times. He thinks we need to be getting our own messages out and get Earth noticed. Aliens might probably be looking for somewhere they can get more resources from. He claims we can all imagine the consequences of this by simply looking in the mirror. “We only have to look at ourselves to see how intelligent life might develop into something we wouldn’t want to meet.”
Could there be ambassadors from space on the planet?
The story about the United Nations alien ambassador didn’t just come out of the blue. Othman began the rumor. Rather than jump on the bandwagon, the Guardian decided to actually check the facts. Othman’s speech on alien contact was questioned by the British newspaper. It even called the Royal Society to ask about it. It was news to them. Nobody knew about it. The Office for Outer Space Affairs questions were all referred someplace else by the United Nations A switchboard in Vienna is where they went. Othman told the Guardian the truth after an e-mail sent to her. She said the U.N. alien ambassador story was just a hoax. All she had to say was, “It sounds really cool, but I have to deny it.” There is a real problem that needs to be solved in her speech at the Royal Society. Earth may be colliding with some objects in its rotation soon which will be discussed.
